Brewster’s Millions Getting Reworked by Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan

According to The Hollywood Reporter Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan will be writing a new adaptation of the classic story Brewster’s Millions.

Brewster’s Millions is a classic story that has been around for awhile. Originally a novel by George Barr McCutcheon released in 1902 and it became a play in 1906. It got its first film adaptation in 1945 starring Dennis O’Keefe, directed by Allan Dwan. In 1985 the film got a comedy boost with talents of the time, Richard Pryor and John Candy, starring and getting directed by Walter Hill.

The classic tale follows a man who gets $1 million from a rich grandfather. When a rich uncle dies, he leaves the man $7 million dollars but with one stipulation. The man has to spend the grandfather’s $1 million within a year and not end up with any assets from the spending spree in order to receive the $7 million. In the 80s version the jackpot was elevated a little with the terms of the will stipulating that Brewster is challenged to spend $30 million within 30 days in order to inherit $300 million.

Diliberti and Sullivan got the gig coming off the buzz generated by their script Comic Con. That buddy comedy revolves around two friends who form a” justice league of comic geeks to plan and execute a daring heist at Comic-Con in order to save their beloved neighborhood comic shop from the clutches of an evil corporate takeover.”

The scribes met while attending the Johns Hopkins University. Sullivan segued into stand-up comedy, and Diliberti spent several years as an assistant to Scott Rudin, acting as an associate producer on the Rudin-produced Stop-Loss.
