Rob Marshall to Direct Pirates 4? Director in Talks for Next Sequel
Rob Marshall is in talks to direct the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise produced by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. This puts the film on track for a 2010 production start planned by the studio.
“Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney have been meeting with a number of directors in recent weeks, because the studio wants to pull the “Pirates” film together and have Depp star in it before he does “The Lone Ranger” for the producer and the studio.”
Though Marshall is not official it seems as if its all formality even the studio is moving forward thinking about casting and new characters for the film.
Marshall garnered fame and acclaim with his Academy Award winning directing of Chicago. He just wrapped up another musical known as Nine which stars Daniel Day Lewis.
He hasn’t directed much, besides Chicago, he directed Memoirs of a Geisha and the TV movie Annie. One thing I can say is that Memoirs of a Geisha was very authentic portraying that culture. One thing I think, Rob Marshall, does very well is his attention to detail and bringing that to Pirates may make for a very good fourth film - something that most series don’t have. Having never done a big action adventure I wonder how he will handle that as the director? I think somebody probably said that about Michael Bay as a music video director. I think, and this is me arguing with myself, that its preference. Does he want to do something big action like and cut scenes together and the lengthy process filming action takes?
