Justin Timberlake Being Considered For Green Lantern Role?

Ain’t It Cool News, Justin Timberlake is screen testing for the title role in The Green Lantern. The site’s source, “Alphonse,” is saying that Timberlake has by no means landed the role, but he’s apparently in serious contention for the role and he performed screen tests at Leavesden Studios.

So I thought about making this a WTF post where I completely fall into submission and berate this idea from every angle but it is bait trap. I feel it in my bones that this could be a load of crap or simply Warner Brothers and the production getting every possible look they can of everyone who could possibly dawn the Green Ring.

Like many sites have reported and myself in the past - Martin Campbell likes to Screen Test a lot of people before making his mind up. Timberlake probably solicited one and got it due to his name and pop culture status and why not? he provides an usual dimension that doesn’t mean he’s right but when you are director trying to decide the lead in a franchise you want to make sure you know what you don’t want. Timberlake is a capable actor, not just comedy and singing/dancing, he can act but can he take franchise? Preferably no but I’d like to see someone that isn’t name take the role much like Pine for Star Trek.

Formerly rumored Shawn Roberts, who is (speculatively) still on the short list,  I think is the perfect way to go. I have read the first draft of the script and can say that he’d fit the character better than Timberlake.

  • Timberlake's a decent actor, but I don't think he'd be a good fit for this role.
