Jerry Bruckheimer Nabs IDW’s World War Robot
Jerry Bruckheimer’s going to war but what else is new for the guy who brought us films like Top Gun, Days of Thunder, The Rock, ConAir and Pirates of the Caribbean. The guy knows action but his contract with Disney has led to interesting fluff such GForce, a not so Bruckheimer film. Don’t get me wrong he still has Pirates, National Treasure sequels in the works and Lone Ranger – this isn’t something to laugh at.
Now he has landed feature rights to the IDW graphic novel World War Robot. Based on a story, penned by Ashley Wood and the film will be a recount of in war-diary form by participants on both sides, centers on a small band of humans and robots facing off in a battle that takes them to Earth, the moon and Mars.
IDW, 10 years old, is home to such titles as 30 Days of Night, Popbot and Dark Days along with licensed titles such as 24, Angel, CSI and the Transformers toy line.
IDW has been eager to set up its books as film properties to generate more bucks for the publishers. It’s currently the third-largest behind Marvel and DC.
They are in good hands with Bruckheimer and his company in the production waters more so than their stinker 30 Days of Night that chalked up around $40 mill. with Bruckheimer you know there will be some marketing buzz for sure.
