Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

It’s that time again when we finally get another dose of Harry Potter. In the last ten years we have read and watched the story of the boy who lived and how he is he is the chosen one to end Voldemort’s reign of terror on the wizarding world. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth installment in the Harry Potter franchise, and what a franchise this has become. My hopes going into this movie were very high and I was eager to have those feelings proven right, and they were. This movie pulls you in right away as soon as the credits roll and leaves you wanting more by the end of the movie. This movie has an all star cast that we have grown to love over the years that this amazing story has been told, and even has the ones that we love to hate.

As readers and viewers will notice, the story gradually gets darker and darker, as each new chapter is told. This year we find Harry Potter thrown into the mix again so to speak. Nobody in the Muggle or Wizarding world is safe, people are going missing and attacks are becoming more frequent. Voldemort’s hand is closing in tighter and to what seems to be getting closer to his final goal. The Order of the Phoenix has to keep their guard up in anticipation for anything that should arise. We find that Harry, Ron, Hermoine, and Ginny, have all came a long way in their knowledge and use of magic, whether it be everyday needs or the knowing how to protect themselves should the need arise.

Romance is definitely in the air, hearts have been broken and then mended again. You will see that Dumbledore is finally starting to share secrets and information with Harry that is vital to his future and well being, while yet still managing to keep him in the dark with on a need to know basis. We see that Draco Malfoy has matured but not for the better, only for the worse. He has his own agenda this year at Hogwart’s , say goodbye to the bully and hello to the young man that is torn between his feelings, his fear, and his duties that he has been chosen for. The special effects in this movie along with the locations used and the props that were used are very well done.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint still hold the same magic on screen as the characters they represent in the books. I can honestly say that this is a riveting and exciting movie that will not disappoint Harry Potter fans around the world. Whether you have read all the books and watched all of the movies or just watched the movies, this I think is not only the best of the Harry Potter movie so far, but I think it will be one of the best movies of the year, it has drama, suspense, romance, action, and comedy all rolled into one great film that I am sure won’t disappoint. I hope that everyone who sees it is as pleased with it and as entertained as I was.

Total Score - 9.5 out of 10.
