2009 Comic-Con: What Not To Expect At San Diego Comic-Con That Could Surprise Us?
I came across an interesting article over at our friends at Jo-Blo. I have been working on my itinerary for Comic-Con and with the recent release of the programming schedule it seems everything is officially set in stone for an awesome year at SDCC.
But what is it we won’t see? Avatar, Iron Man 2, 2012, Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day, District 9, Alice In Wonderland, Tron 2, New Moon will all be there but what about Green Lantern, Green Hornet, Scott Pilgrim?
Last year Wolverine surprised everyone as they were not on the programming schedule and lucky fans got to see the first trailer courtesy of Hugh Jackman.
Jo-Blo says “there promises to be some surprises as well. We’re privy to some of them (and don’t ask, cause I’m not talkin) and I think you’ll be happy.”
However here are some films that should be at SDCC this year but are absent from the schedules. I picked 5 movies that I thought should make an appearance at Comic-Con some are very much like Jo-Blo some are different. I also included a Surprise Meter which includes our antipation mixed with the actual possibility of a surprise from the studio.
1. Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World - Having just started to read this series I can tell you without a doubt that it is going to be a great movie. That being said I wish we had something to see at Comic-Con. Edgar Wright has been open on his video blogs on the production but is there any footage to screen yet? This could be a surprise for us but for right now it is one of those that may hit WonderCon or something later in the year.
Surprise Meter - 8/10
Definitely a high possibility and definitely a high anticipation level to see something on this.
2. The Expendables- One of my most anticipated films of 2010, Sly Stallone brings the kick back in kick-ass! with this ode to the classic 80s action films. We were expecting to get some new footage maybe even a trailer featuring the cast and some crazy shit blowing up. Imagine if Hall H erupted because Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Dolph Lundgren and the rest of the cast walked out on stage. That would be cool.
Surprise Meter - 7/10
Very high to see all those guys in one room but also any footage would be sweet and the possibility is there being they teased Cannes with posters what’s a little footage at Comic-Con.
3. The Green Lantern- Obviously this film is a long way off but I thought for sure it would have a small panel to possibly announce who Hal would be much like Star Trek did with Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy a few years ago. Ryan Reynolds is announced already so no Green Lantern surprise from Warner Brothers this year makes me sad.
Surprise Meter - 5/10
We already got the big announcement and with no footage yet or anything else major except casting the anticipation isn’t that high and neither is the likelyhood of a surprise visit from anyone.
4. Inception- A Comic-Con without Nolan is interesting. Though no Dark Knight or any Batman stuff in sight, it would have been cool to see some teaser material from Nolan’s latest project the sci-fi film featuring Leo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Cillian Murphy and more. Another Warner Brother’s surprise may be waiting in the wings here but most likely not.
Surprise Meter - 8/10
Definitely a possibility being the film is scheduled for release next year and there is teaser stuff to show but Nolan may skip out in an attempt to not field anything to fans or press on The Dark Knight sequel.
5. Clash of the Titans- Warner Brothers hits the trifecta with us. Currently filming is the remake to this classic film and a huge cast is making up the feature directed by Louis Letterier. Shaping up to be one of 2010’s biggest movies for Warner Bros. They’ve already teased us with some early photos from the film so why not a little early footage at Comic-Con?
Surprise Meter - 6/10
I am not super pumped about seeing anything on this but I can say that the possibility of this making an appearance may be pretty high being that it is in the middle of production right now there may be enough for a teaser.
