2009 Comic-Con: Disney’s A Christmas Carol Footage Description and Bob Zemeckis Talks
Patton Oswalt entered the room and the jokes just began to fly and it was a great intro worthy of a panel that boasts itself the first 3D. He had a disclaimer that the 3D would not be that amazing of quality being that it isn’t theater set up but we’d have some surprises.
First off we had Robert Zemekis enter the panel with some 1 on 1 with Patten. Zemeckis had some great sound bites talking about the art of 3D and its revolution in the film industry.
“totally immersive way to tell movies, not all movies should be 3D but if the story works…why not.”
One question that Oswault asked which was particulary interesting was why do a 3D A Christmas Carol and Zemeckis’ response was very well versed and made some great sense. He said that the novel is trippy and surreal and cinematic and that he actually thought that we now have the technology to bring something new to the story that has been told in a way it never has been told.
Footage Description:
The scene set up was basically the visit of Ghost Marley to Scrooge. The scene started off with Scrooge signing as a witness on Marley’s death certificate. The scene had a lot of depth from the depiction of Marley in the coffin to the angry face of Scrooge. The scene moved to showing Scrooge in his arm chair where we are immersed in his bed chamber. The shot that particularly got me was the one of Marley entering the room and you had this loud, intense boom with these Iron clas chains hitting you and they were unbelievably freaky coming at you. Then you could see Carey’s range playing massevily different tones and face acting which was outstanding.
The movie is going to ode itself to the book extremely well and the last scene showed the visit from the Ghost of Christmas Past and wonderful scene showing scrooge floating over the moon after being rocketed.
By the way the Roger Rabbit 2 question popped up and he gave the neither confirm nor deny quote but did add that if there was a Roger Rabbit sequel that “it will be 2D who knows only if it happened though.”
