2009 Comic-Con: Boondock Saints II Interviews! Trailer Premiere at Comic-Con
A great follow-up to my interview with Cliff Collins Jr. was this weekend at Comic-Con where I got to meet and sit down with Billy Connolly, Norman Reedus, Julie Benz and Clifton Collins (again).
Sitting in the hotel suite I got to chat with with Pappa MacManus and he explained to me a little bit of his character in the next film and that we’d get a backstory for Pappa “Il Duce” McManus.
“His background is explained and its very closely related to Peter Fonda’s character.” According to Connolly his character grows up with Fonda’s character known as The Roman and they end up going separate ways.
Peter Fonda was not at Comic-Con and maybe we will have a chance to talk to him sometime but the backstory between him and Pappa seems very interesting.
Connolly told me we find him having to reconnect with his old friend and in the flashbacks of the 70s we see the mother of the boys as well (she is mentioned in the first film). The film takes place 8 or 10 years after the first movies and the family of men are living a quiet existence in Ireland on their sheep farm. They are called back to the states when a series of copycat murders crop up and they feel the burning and call once more to take down curruption and criminals.
Lastly, Pappa will be wearing his really six gun holster vest and Connolly had a really funny story telling me that the one from the first movie was either stolen or went missing because Troy Duffy thought he had them while he thought Troy had them. It was quite entertaining and laughable.
Norman Reedus talked to me about Murphy and how we will find him in the story but mostly we talked about each other’s favorite beers (something German), his love for his son’s band and the legacy of the first film and how he thinks the new movie is a hundred times better than the first.
“”We find Murphy and Connor together with Papa in Ireland and our life is different but we are called back because of a series of murders. Troy’s on tap in this film and the movie just rocks every which way, its funny, its familiar but so different. The action is bad ass.”
Lastly Norman I talked about his friendship with Sean Patrick Flannery and the fact that he’d love to do more movies with him and even play his nemesis. I aslo asked if he and Sean would find any “Boondock Babes” or some love interests in the movie.
“Yeah I’d love to act with him we have such a good time and sure I’d like to play a bad guy to him.” As far as a love interest for guys Reedus told me that it just wasn’t something Troy would do that its not his style.
“If Troy had a heavy metal band he wouldn’t have a power ballad.”
The last part of the sit downs I got to do was with new to the Saints world Clifton Collins Jr. and Julie Benz. I mostly spoke with Benz about her character FBI Agent Eustice Bloom and how she would appear and the description she gave me was one that was quite entertaining.
“She’s a hottie but she’s smart. She’s got pink latex gloves and wears these really sexy outfits and is one that guys are going to want to f*** and girls are going to want to be. When you see her you are just going to be blown away.”
To finish my synopsis and days of interviews I ended with my favorite guy in hollywood right Clifton Collins Jr. and we just talked more about his character Romeo and the style that Romeo would have in the film compared to the other Saints.
“He will look like a saint at the end of the movie but when you meet Romeo he has different look and style that is unique and thats what I wanted and Troy wanted to have.”
It was great to sit down with all these guys and talk about the film and get to know them and here at Fused Film where we are all about fusing you to hollywood we get to fuse you with some of the coolest actors and projects ever. Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day doesn’t have a release date yet but we are excited to get a chance to see the trailer sometime soon.
I almost forgot I asked about a trilogy for the franchise with a third film and most of the answers I got were the same that if Troy wanted too he would and he probably has ideas for one but his focus is purely on this one right now. We didn’t get a chance to see the trailer but you can go over to our friends at Slashfilm to catch a synopsis of it and a fan reaction review.
