Summer Glau to Join Whedon’s Dollhouse?

According to Entertainment Weekly, Whedon shed some light on bringing Summer Glau onto Dollhouse, now that her series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been canceled. Glau played River, the troubled “cargo”, in his short lived Firefly/Serenity, she also was in an episode of Angel, Whedon’s vampire action drama.

“If anybody thinks [bringing Summer onto Dollhouse] hasn’t occurred to me already then they have not met me,” he says. “I mentioned it to her before [SCC] was canceled. I was like, ‘You know, we should get you in the ‘house.’ But first we have to come up with something that works.” And casting her as a doll would not work, insists Whedon. “Summer would be perfect to play an active, but she’s done that [type of role] a lot,” he says. “I’d rather see her play someone who talks too much. The most fun I have is when I get somebody who’s good and comfortable at doing something, and then I make them do something else. Summer said to me, ‘I would like to play a normal girl before I die of extreme old age.’”

I would totally be in to her being a regular on the show and even replace Dushku as the main character but that may be stretch. I enjoy Glau and she definitely plays the whole robotic personality very well, plus she’d be great at the action stuff too. Whedon is a fan of impowered women and Dollhouse can prove to be a great canvas for Glau to act in. Whedon is known for being loyal to his former actors, when Firefly was canceled Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin all got jobs in the Buffy/Angelverse. Alan Tudyk from Firefly has had a re-occuring role on Dollhouse, which stars Dushku, who played Faith in Buffy and Angel. Amy Acker, who plays Whiskey/Dr. Saunders on Dollhouse was also a regular on 3 seasons of Angel.
