Rob Cohen to Direct Medieval

Rob Cohen, who was supposed to be directing XXX: The Return of Xander Cage for Sony is leaving the project to direct a new event-sized action film Medieval for New Regency, which is a story described as The Magnificent Seven set in the Middle Ages.

Cohen, who studied anthropology and European history at Harvard, said he was drawn by the opportunity to tap into the historical period and create a heightened reality with big action pieces. Regency has kept the script hush-hush, but sources said the action brings together warriors from disparate cultures.

New Regency acquired the spec script by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch in an $800,000 against $1.6 million deal. McG will be involved in a producing capacity.

I like the idea of getting warriors from disctint different cultures from the time clashing together in battle. That means cool characters each with something different about them. I like Medieval films if they are done right and even though Rob Cohen has never impressed me with his directing he definitely can stage a good fight scene, lets just hope he has a good script to work with.

Lastly, one of my favorite shows is on Spike TV and it is called The Deadliest Warrior, it is a mythbusters type show where scientists, skilled historians and weapons experts get together and determine who is deadlier warrior. Each week they pit different warriors from history together and see who wins. My intrigue in this show leads to some excitement over the Medieval project as knights and other warriors of the time I find interesting.
