Marcus Nispel Directing Conan (Replacing Brett Ratner)

The director of Platinum Dunes remake of Friday The 13th is taking Brett Ratner’s place directing the remake of Conan. Marcus Nispel has signed on to direct the film according to CHUD.

We reported Ratner’s attachment and departure from the project but we were always told that an August start date was what Millennium and Lionsgate wanted. However it wasn’t clear if they still aim to get the film rolling by then, especially since no cast members have been attached as of yet. CHUD did report that a casting announcement was expected soon, and that the title role was expected to go to an unknown actor.

Nispel seems like a great choice being that he has one remake on his belt. Anything is better than Ratner in my book. As far as casting goes I think an unknown would be a swell idea, it wasn’t so long ago a guy name Schwarzengger was Conan and no one had no idea who he was. I have seen Derek Mears’ name thrown around. He was the guy who played Jason in Nispel’s remake.
