Javier Bardem to Play Wall Street 2’s Financial Villain + Plot Details
It seems that Shia LaBeouf is getting some Oscar-winning company for a long-awaited sequel. According to Nikke Finke at Deadline Hollywood, who is one of the most reliable sources in the film reporting world, Academy Award winning actor, Javier Bardem will portray the villain in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street 2.
Finke is also reporting that the rumored Shia LaBeouf has officially signed on to co-star alongside Wall Street star Michael Douglas and that screenwriter Allan Loeb is said to turn in his second draft of the script later this week.
On Finke’s site she goes into great detail on the film’s proposed plot revolving around Gecko returning to the financial community after his 21 year sentence looking to make up time with his estranged daughter and warn the financial community that the “end is coming” but they all shrug him off. Meanwhile LeBeouf will be playing the young idealistic trader who finds Gecko and needs his help in taking down Javier Bardem’s character, who believes is responsible for the death of his mentor who unexpectedly kills himself.
“I’m told Wall Street 2’s story spans from June 2008 through the federal bailout. “We wanted to see some perspective in the same way that the original dealt with insider trading,” a source explains to me.”
The film is reportedly set to start shooting on August 10, aiming for a February 2010 release. It seems interesting and I am warming up to the idea of the movie as I hear more about it and Javier Bardem is definitely a great choice to play a ruthless global hedge fund manager who will stop at nothing to keep his assets pumping in the cash flow.
