Top 8 Summer Movies To Look Foward Too…After Star Trek

So now that you have seen Star Trek you wonder what else is there? What can I possibly see this summer that is equally as good? or Better? Well we have listed our Top 8 films you need and will want to see this summer after Star Trek. After careful consideration a few films missed the Top 8 cut but if there was a 10 some of these might make it: G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra, Angels and Demons, 500 Days of Summer, Land of the Lost, The Hangover and Taking Woodstock were all movies that I struggled trying to get into the Top 8 and ultimately they weren’t as high as the following films. So without further ado, below is one to eight.

1. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - June 26, 2009

Getting its release on June 26, 2009, this highly anticipated follow-up to 2007′s Transformers from Michael Bay may in fact be the biggest movie of the summer and in more ways than one. Not just in the box office payload but just in terms of big stars, big action, big robots and big fun. In the film Sam Witwicky (Shia Lebeouf) and Mikaela Banes (Megan Fox) join the Autobots once again to face off against the Decepticons an epic battle over Earth. Sam discovers something about the origins of the Transformers and their history on Earth after receiving visions from a remaining piece of the Allspark. The evil Decepticons need to capture him for information.

2. UP – May 29, 2009

Returning to summer once again is, Pixar and Disney, bringing another highly anticipated animated film to audiences everywhere with UP, a comedy adventure about 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfills his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell. From the Academy Award®-nominated director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.”), Disney•Pixar’s UP invites you on a hilarious journey into a lost world, with the least likely duo on Earth. “Up” will be presented in Disney Digital 3-DTM in select theaters.

3. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian – May 22, 2009

One of many sequels hitting us this summer this follow-up to Ben Stiller’s 2006 family comedy Night at the Museum, a clever family fun adventure inside the walls of the New York Museum of Natural History. Question is: How do you out do yourself a second time around? Well you take the adventure to biggest museum in the world – -The Smithsonian.  Joined by several other stars from the original film, as well as new characters from history, including Amy Adams as famed aviatrix Amelia Earhart, Hank Azaria as villainous Egyptian pharaoh Kahmunrah, Christopher Guest as Russian tyrant Ivan the Terrible and Alain Chabat as Napoleon. The centerpiece of the film will be bringing to life the Smithsonian Institution, which houses the world’s largest museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections, ranging from the plane Amelia Earhart flew on her nonstop solo flight across the Atlantic and Al Capone’s rap sheet and mug shot to Dorothy’s ruby red slippers and Archie Bunker’s lounge chair. No major film has ever shot inside the Smithsonian in Washington…until Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. The “Battle” begins in theaters and IMAX everywhere May 22.

4. Terminator Salvation - May 21, 2009

A whole new sequel and beginning of a new trilogy to the famed James Cameron creation, this time around McG brings us the war against the machines with a post Judgment Day battle for survival bringing back to life the one man, whose destiny has always been intertwined with the fate of human existence: John Connor (Christian Bale). Now the world is on the brink of the future that Connor has been warned about all his life. But something totally new has shaken his belief that humanity stands a chance of winning this war: the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger from the past whose last memory is of being on death row before awakening in this strange, new world. Connor must decide whether Marcus can be trusted. But as Skynet adapts new strategies to end the Resistance forever, Connor and Marcus must find common ground to take a stand against the onslaught, to infiltrate Skynet and meet the enemy head-on. Also starring Moon Bloodgood, Anton Yelchin, Common and Bryce Dallas Howard this new look into the Terminator franchise is surely going to be one no one will want to miss.

5. Public Enemies- July 1, 2009

Acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the incredible and true story of legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger (Depp) the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoovers fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public. No one could stop Dillinger. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard) to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger’s gang later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham)thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw’s capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America’s first Public Enemy Number One. Hoover sent in Purvis, the dashing “Clark Gable of the FBI”. However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis’ men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) who were real gunfighters and orchestrating epic betrayals from the infamous “Lady in Red” to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nittiwere Purvis and the FBI able to close in on Dillinger. Release date is July 1, 2009.

6. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince – July 15, 2009

The sixth installment to the beloved book and film franchise and the most promising of the series to date brings back Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as the lovable trio of magically inclined witch and wizards from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Voldemort is tightening his grip on both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that dangers may even lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. Together they work to find the key to unlock Voldemort’s defenses and, to this end, Dumbledore recruits his old friend and colleague, the well-connected and unsuspecting Professor Horace Slughorn, whom he believes holds crucial information. Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry finds himself more and more drawn to Ginny, but so is Dean Thomas. And Lavender Brown has decided that Ron is the one for her, only she hadn’t counted on Romilda Vane’s chocolates! And then there’s Hermione, simpering with jealously but determined not to show her feelings. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

7. Funny People – July 31, 2009

George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a very successful yet self-involved stand-up comedian who learns that he has an inoperable blood disorder and is given less than a year to live. Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) is a struggling up-and-coming stand-up comedian who works at a deli and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One thing these different men have in common is that neither of them have any close friends. One night, George takes notice of Ira when they perform at the same club and he hires him to be his semi-personal assistant and opening act at his performances. George and Ira form a close bond as George teaches Ira how to win the crowd and Ira helps the dying George find closure in his legacy. However, when George learns that his disease has gone into remission and an old flame (Leslie Mann) reenters his life, his recent near death experience inspires him to reevaluate what is important to him and what truly gives meaning to his life.

8. Inglorious Basterds – August 21, 2009

From the narrative mind of Ouentin Tarantino comes the next great WWII epic. Taking place in German-occupied France, where Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Shosanna narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution. Known to their enemy as “The Basterds,” Raine’s squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own…Two story lines converge: One follows a group of prisoners-turned-soldiers whose mission is to take down a group of Nazis, and the other follows a young Jewish woman who seeks to avenge the death of her parents by this Nazi group. The film will be divided into five chapters: Chapter One: Once Upon a Time in Nazi Occupied France, Chapter Two: Inglourious Basterds, Chapter Three: German Night in Paris (filmed in “French New Wave Black and White”), Chapter Four: Operation Kino and Chapter Five: Revenge of the Giant Face.
