Tom Hiddelston Cast As Loki in Marvel’s Thor
The other day we reported the casting of Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming big screen adaptation of the Marvel comic book character of the same name in 2011 and the 2012 Avengers film. Today Nikki Finke tells us that British actor Tom Hiddleston has been cast as long time adversary (and brother) of Thor, Loki.
Hiddleston is pretty much an unknown to American audiences, a British actor and a Royal Academy Of Dramatic Arts (RADA) graduate. He played Winston Churchill’s son in HBO’s The Gathering Storm. It’s also worth noting that Hiddleston starred in Ivanov opposite Sir Kenneth on the London stage and also starred with him in the BBC miniseries Wallander.
For those who aren’t familiar with the comics, Loki is a supervillain based on the being of the same name from Norse mythology. The character first appeared in Venus #6 (August 1949) and was created by writer Stan Lee, writer Larry Lieber and penciller Jack Kirby.
Although recently in the comics Loki has taken on the form of a female, something tells me the film won’t be seeing Mr. Hiddleston in drag.
