Sam Raimi Talks Morbius Rumors for Spider-Man 4
Morbius, one of the lesser known members of the Spider-man rogues gallery at least when you compare it to guys like Doc Ock or The Green Goblin but living vampire may be getting a big screen treatment as the villain in Spider-man 4.
Sam Raimi, is now talking about the rumors circulating around the character being in the film. The long-rumored villain, touted by Marvel CEO Avi Arad, and hinted to with Dr. Conners, has long been The Lizard, but it seems now even more plausible that Raimi is definitely going to be attaching Morbius to the storyline.
“What? I don’t now anything about that,” Raimi said sarcastically at first. But really dodged the question instead talking about why he likes vamps (and who doesn’t?) so much.
“I guess they’re very appealing. The best of villains have some positive qualities. That is – they can be very sexy and alluring. And the way in which they attack you is very sensual, it’s almost something you desire.”
“That’s why I like the fact that there is a cure against them in some of the lore, like garlic or the cross. That’s really interesting, that there is a way to stop them. There’s a whole story that can be made with all those elements. So its got some real rules and laws…”
“And that you can be turned into one of them is interesting also. Its got a lot of enticing qualities for a storyteller or an audience.”
I really do not know how to interpret this statement as it doesn’t really scream Spider-man 4. I think he is being vague as to not swing the rumor either way for Spider-man 4 or an upcoming horror project he might have in mind. I think Morbius would bea cool villain I do not know if he is the one that eventually decided on by Raimi and David Lindsey-Abaire for the film.
