Review: Elgato EyeTV 250 Plus —-Part 1.
I just started using the Elgato EyeTV 250 plus to transfer old home videos from VHS to my mac and all I can say is WOW! Aesthetically the eye tv looks and feels like it was designed by Johnathan Ive and complements the apple tv and mac mini perfectly. The EyeTV 3 software provides a useful interface with several assistants to guide the user through a task. Importing video is a snap and the software is capable of editing and exporting in a variety of formats and even makes iphone/ipod versions of your home movies. Included is Toast Basic, a DVD burning utility making this little hardware software combo a onestop video shop. Users like myself, who still want to use imovie and idvd will also find the EyeTV 3 software helpful as you can export directly into these programs with ease.
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!!!! EyeTV is a digital TV tuner capable of sending over the air and set top box cable signals to your mac in both SD and HD. The EyeTV turns your mac into a DVR and can convert series recordings of your favorite shows into ipod video. I will admit I have not used any of the TV tuner features but the video editing features are worth the purchase price alone. The Eye TV 250 plus retails for $199.95 and is available at the apple store. Look for my review of the TV tuner features in the future.
