Flight of The Navigator Remake at Disney?
It is always the remakes that make film news these days nothing seems to be hitting the desk of Hollywood execs except remakes and that seems to stem from the recent success of reboots/remakes like Star Trek, Batman, Bond and others.
Disney is keen reigniting old franchises especially in the sci-fi department. We know we are getting another Tron, we just saw Race to Witch Mountain. Now Flight of the Navigator is getting its reboot.
1986 original told the story of a 12-year-old boy who is abducted by an alien spacecraft in 1978 and reappears eight years later, still the same age and with no memory of what happened. NASA scientists discover a connection between the boy and a downed spacecraft and try to exploit the boy, who ultimately escapes with the ship and attempts to reunite with his family. The film was never a box office success but became a massive cult hit.
Brad Copeland is writing the remake, which is being produced by Mandeville partners David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman. John Hyde, who executive produced the first one, steps into the same role for the new version.
I am not opposed to this being a remake. It was a great movie to watch when I was a kid and I think a new generation of fans will be really into this movie. With advancements in film making since the original it will be interesting to see what they come up with in terms of scale.
