Jason Statham and Simon West Re-Make The Mechanic

Production Weekly sent out this Twitter yesterday,

“Simon West in talks to direct Jason Statham in a reinvention of the 1972 Charles Bronson action classic “The Mechanic”

The original 1972 film starred Charles Bronson as a contract killer ready to retire from the game when he takes on a young apprentice, played by Jan-Michael Vincent, when it becomes clear that they were double-crossed and have to survive.

It seems like Jason Statham’s typecasting continues as the man who can drive car and kill someone for hire. I love Statham though and I would rather see him in these movies then anything else. That being said I was skeptical about the Death Race re-make and it actually turned to be quite entertaining so I will give The Mechanic a chance. Simon West is a good director and he did well directing the first Lara Croft film with Angelina Jolie and ConAir is one of my favorite blockbuster films ever.
