DVD News: If You Want Snow White, you’re gonna have to go Blu first
Disney has been one of the leading proponents of Blu-ray ever since they went exclusively “Blu” during the high definition format war. They’ve also been leading the charge among publishers when it comes to gently nudging us DVD owners in the direction of Blu-ray. The House of Mouse first included DVD versions bundled in with their Blu-ray releases. Then they tested out a special advance release window with the Bolt Blu-ray (2 days before the standard DVD).
Now Disney has announced the forthcoming Platinum Edition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Blu-ray will release on October 6, a full seven weeks before the November 24 DVD release!
Snow White was the first DVD to sell 1 million copies (I was one of those 1 million) in a single day when it was released in 2001.
Those die-hard Disney fans (including myself) who must have a copy of Snow White will have two options, either wait 2 months or buy the Blu-ray just to get the bundled in DVD copy. I don’t know about you but I think this is a great move to encourage Blu-ray sales of the film. All you DVD stalwarts who have yet to jump on the hi-def bandwagon, just think how great a PS3 or Blu-ray player will be for an early Christmas present to yourselves.
What do YOU think?
