Channing Tatum wants Captain America Role?

Channing Tatum has simply become everyone’s favorite Marine incarnation, playing one in Stop Loss, GI JOE: The Rise of Cobra, Dear John, and Pinkville. Could Tatum bring is All-American good boyness to the Marvel universe as Captain America/Steve Rogers? MTV Splashpage has the exclusive interview with Tatum talking about wanting the role of The Avengers team leader.

“I would love to talk about it,” Tatum told MTV News, admitting that a few people have told him to go after the role, though nothing solid has happened on that front.“When I’d heard that Will Smith was [interested], I’m just like, ‘God, yeah. That’s who should play it,’” said Tatum. “It would be a different Captain America than we all know in the comic, but it’s perfect.”

Interesting part of all this is the reimurgance of the Will Smith as Captain America rumor. The other interesting fact is that this is the first time I have heard Tatum, not saying he hasn’t been mentioned I just didn’t think about him as a candidate until now. He has the youth of Steve Rogers going into the military and he as the size and look of Rogers to fill out the suit, question is does he have that leader believability?

As much as Will Smith playing Captain America would be different and a social commentary on Obama as president, I just think it is silly and something that isn’t going to happen. In my mind Tatum is perfect for the role having now heard him as a candidate.
