Below the Fold: Gillian Anderson in Doctor Who as Rani, Stephen Dorff Joins Sandler’s Porn Comedy, Dreyfuss is Piranha 3D, Lutz in Elm Street

Below the Fold, this is a hyper news post  that kind of wraps the smaller headlines I missed for a particular day or through the week.

- Movie News -

Kellan Lutz Enters A Nightmare on Elm Street - Kellan Lutz (Twilight) is joining the cast of the new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie. “Lutz is slated to play a popular school jock in this horror film reboot that features kids being tormented by dream stalker Freddy Krueger (Jackie Early Haley).” [Hollywood Reporter]

Stephen Dorff Is Born to Be a Star - According to Variety, Stephen Dorff will be joining the cast of Born to Be a Star for Sony Pictures. The screenplay was written by Adam Sandler who is also producing. The story follows a Midwestern geek (Nick Swardson) who finds out that his parents were well known porn stars. Christina Ricci will be playing Swardson’s girlfriend. Dorff will play the role of “Dick Shadow,” a renowned porn star.

Richard Dreyfuss to Appear in Piranha 3-D - Nuke The Fridge reports that Richard Dreyfuss will make a cameo in Piranha 3-D. “It looks like this role will be a tip of the hat to the character that Dreyfuss played in Jaws. All that’s known is that his character will take down Amity brand beer (Amity is where Jaws was set).”

- TV News -

Gillian Anderson to Play Rani on Doctor Who - Daily Telegraph reports that Gillian Anderson, known to many as Agent Scully from The X-Files, is heading to a brand new science-fiction franchise, as she prepares to appear in Doctor Who. Anderson will appear as The Rani, acting opposite Matt Smith’s Doctor. When the Master re-appeared in the third season of the revived Doctor Who, showrunner Russel T. Davies joked that the hand which claimed the Master’s ring in the last episode was that of Rani (Adam called that). Davies said he had no plans to use that storyline himself, but said it was included for future production teams who wanted to bring either the Master or Rani back.
