Angelina Jolie to team with Fox 2000 on Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta Series of Novels
Hollywood starlet, Angelina Jolie is teaming with Fox 2000 to bring live-action versions of the infamous Patricia Cornwell Kay Scarpetta series to the big screen. Cornwell has 16 novels revolving around Dr. Scarpetta, a medical examiner that is caught into suspenseful mysteries.
“…a franchise is hoped for, but this film won’t be tied to a specific Cornwell mystery title. Much the way that Jason Bourne morphed into an action hero in plots not rigidly locked into the Robert Ludlum book series, the opera-loving coroner Scarpetta will be the lead in a suspense thriller in the vein of “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Seven.” [Variety]
Fox has had success with TV shows like Bones which revolves around a forensic anthropologist based on the novels and real life of Katherine Heichs, the shows popularity stems from its female audience. This is no surprise that the Cornwell series is being sought as a bankable property based on the success of that show as well as the Bourne films. Getting Jolie is huge as she is one of the most bankable female movie stars and Cornwell is one of the biggest selling female authors in the world. Fox 2000 sees this as a marriage made in heaven or rather a franchise made in heaven.
