TV News: Stargate Universe Cast Shaping Up!

Ming Na, Elyse Levesque, Lou Diamond Phillips and Alaina Huffman and Christopher McDonald join Universe Cast!

So our friends over at Gateworld reported some major casting fills and we though we would shout it out in our TV News section. One of my most anticipated shows next fall is, Stargate Universe. No secret that I am a massive Stargate fan from every inception, Atlantis, SG-1 and the feature film.We now have word that Ming Na, Elyse Levesque, Alaina Huffman, Lou Diamond Phillips and Christopher McDonald have joined a cast that already includes: Robert Carlyle, Justin Louis, David Blue, Jamil Walker Smith and Brian J. Smith.

Now with these recent casting developments I couldn’t be more excited about this show, its direction and the continuation of Stargate.

Now according to Michael Ausiello from Entertainment Weekly,

“Sci Fi Channel’s newest Stargate incarnation has added two more crew members. ER vet Ming-Na and Smallville grad Elyse Levesque have come aboard Stargate Universe, sources confirm to me exclusively…”

Ming Na is well known for her role on TV’s ER, as Dr. Jing-Mei “Deb” Chen on the NBC drama series. She was also recently seen in the film Push, as Emily Hu a highly skilled Sniff, someone who can track people and objects by sniffing items their target has touched. This allows the “Sniff” to see both the history of the item as well as briefly see into the target’s future and note their location.

According to Gateworld her character in SGU is a political attaché named, Camille Wray, though her status as a full-time or recurring cast member has not yet been officially confirmed.

Elyse Levesque will be playing Chloe Armstrong, the daughter of US Senator who finds herself way out of her league when she is trapped on board the Ancient ship Destiny in deep space. She has been in Smallville, Flash Gordon and Men In Trees.

According to my pal Darren Summer at Gateworld, Alaina Huffman and Lou Diamond Phillips have also joined the cast to the series. Alaina Huffman will play the character of Tamara Johansen – the last major core cast members for the series. Huffman is most recognizable to fans of Smallville for portraying the Black Canary/Dinah Lance. She was also in Sci-fi’s Painkiller Jane.

According to Gateworld her character Johansen is a “field medic in her early twenties with off-world experience. She has a modest background, yet is “beautiful, tough, smart, capable.” At the beginning of the series, she is overwhelmed by the lack of medical knowledge, experience, medicine and supplies aboard the ship.”

Lou Diamond Phillips according to the Hollywood Reporter has been announced as well to play “Col. Telford, a lifelong military man and the chosen leader of the ill-fated expedition.”My consensus mirror’s that of many in that it may just be a character that is a guest appearance much like Robert Patrick’s Col. Sumner in the Atlantis pilot episode, Rising.

Last but not least, Christopher McDonald best known as Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore, will playing the role of Senator Armstrong, the father of core cast member Elyse Levesque’s Chloe Armstrong character. His role is a guest role for the series premiere. [Gateworld]
