Rumor: Is There Going to Be a ‘Slumdog’ Wolverine?

While many are still anticipating the opening of X-Men Origins: Wolverine it seems there is always talks of sequel since this is already a franchised property it isn’t suprising. I have not seen the film and while the cast is something that interests me, the movie itself seems campy and stupid. Plus Wolverine was already done in the first three X-Men films (credit Adam on that quote).

That being said, one my favorite films of the year, Slumdog Millionaire, was written by Simon Beaufoy, in which he was awarded an Academy Award. Beaufoy apparently is being pegged to script a second Wolverine Origin film and get this – he has no clue what Wolverine is.

An Ain’t It Cool News scooper wrote in from the Bradford International Film Festival, where Beaufoy revealed he has been hired to write a X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel.

“i’m currently working at the bradford international film festival in the UK, and tonight we had simon beaufoy, screenwriter of slumdog millionaire doing a screentalk. anyway he dropped a bit of a scoop, hes been employed to write the script for “wolverine 2″ a film. i didnt actually realise was even in the pipeline. he commented that while he was apprehensive about the project (claiming to not even know what a wolverine was!) his agent pursuaded him to take it on. he clarified that working on a film thats successor has yet to be finished was a strange experience, and one that he wasnt sure he was comfortable with. anyway, i read your site everyday and figured id send this interesting little tidbit over, — adam”
Even though I like Slumdog Millionaire, I think Beaufoy may be out of his element, assuming this is true. He is going to have a lot more to worry about when writing this film. Fanboys, Marvel, Fox and more will be looking over his shoulder wanting to add things, take things in a different direction, etc. I think the fact that Beaufoy isn’t a fan is actually good though. He will take time to research and write the film in a way that not only is true to his research but also one that non-comic book fans will enjoy. The other things is, we do not even know if there will be a sequel, especially if Wolverine craps out in the box-office. Some other writing credits for the British screenwriter, include – The Full Monty and Miss Pettigrew Lives for A Day.
