MacGyver Getting a Feature Film Revival?

So thanks to our friends over at FirstShowing.net on Twitter, I got wind of this story coming from The Hollywood Reporter. Apparently, New Line Cinema is lining up a reboot of the classic ABC adventure series, MacGyver.

“New Line is using twine, bubble gum and a pencil to throw “MacGyver” into development as a feature film. Raffaella De Laurentiis, daughter of Dino De Laurentiis, is producing through her Raffaella Prods. along with Martha De Laurentiis and series creator Lee Zlotoff. Dino De Laurentiis is exec producing.”

The article doesn’t mention any involvement from Richard Dean Anderson so it seems that this will be a complete revival of the character. I am torn, because RDA is the only guy I could see play MacGyver but at the same time he is older now and it just wouldn’t be the same but then neither would a new guy playing the character seem right either. This leads me to the conclusion this is a remake that doesn’t need to happen. The other thing is, I feel like they have already redone MacGyver with the show Burn Notice, which is very similiar in concept. I am sure this one will make some dough.
