DVD Review: Bolt (Blu-ray)
Having seen Bolt in 3D I do not know if the film could get that much better than that, but what I can say is Disney’s DVD distribution has changed for the better. Bolt in BLu-ray presents one of the most adventurous tales a dog could have with some A-List Hollywood talent on Blu-ray combined with a Digital Copy and DVD version of the film as well.
I really like these combo packs from Disney as they allow different ways to watch the film. Having an iPhone, the digital copy will come in handy when traveling or sitting in a waiting room somewhere. The DVD version came in handy for the rest of the house since there is only one Blu-ray in my room, so they were able to watch the film as well. So kudos to the packaged versions of the film that Disney is selling – Great marketing guys! Also I think another interesting observation is if you do not have a Blu-ray you can purchase this on combo pack anyway and just view the DVD copy until you upgrade, kind of getting prepared with some Blu-rays to have once you make the buy for the player.
Anyway, my initial review of the film still stands. I had so much fun with this movie in fact it is the most fun I have had with a Disney Animated film since Toy Story 2 or even Monster’s Inc. Perhaps the 3D helped its theatrical presentation immersing you into the cool action scenes involving Bolt but the home version is just a nice relaxing and entertaining experience you can enjoy on the couch on a Sunday afternoon.
The story revolved around a dog named Bolt who was brought into show business since he was a puppy. In order to get the best acting out of the dog the show made him beleive everything he was doing was real that he was truly blessed with super powers. Having beleived his owner, Penny was kidnapped by the evil Dr. Calico from his TV series, Bolt begins a cross country adventure that leads to him not just saving the day but discovering something about himself that he didn’t know was there.
Great voice acting from John Travolta and Myley Cyrus as well as supporting voices from Sussie Esseman and Mark Walton provided a wonderful adventure that fans of Homeward Bound, Oliver and Company and All Dogs Go to Heaven will most certainly enjoy as this movie is right there with them.
