The Dark Knight makes $1 billion dollars Worldwide
The Dark Knight has become only the fourth film ever to take in more than a billion dollars in worldwide box office. It joins Titanic, Lord of the Rings:Return of the King, and Pirates of the Carribean:Dead Man’sChest as the only films to achieve this incredible feat. Domestically, it made $533 million, while its grossed $567 million overseas. The Dark Knight was $4 million short of the mark until Warner Brothers rereleased the film onto IMAX screens on January 23, only a day after the Oscar nominations were announced. The film is also has the second-highest domestic box office of all time, behind Titanic.
The Dark Knight is also the most successful 2-D film to be rereleased for IMAX, making $49.6 million domestically and $64.9 million internationally in the 3D theaters. Fanboys can take solace in the fact that while it may not have gotten all of the critical Oscar nominations, it is certainly raking in the big bucks. I would imagine that Warner execs are also pleased by this news.
