Seaberry Sessions: Seriously, Marvel…Deadpool?!

Photos of the action figure of the movie version of Deadpool are circulating the net.  To the complete and utter dismay of Marvel Zombies everywhere, Deadpool is NOT in his traditional, red and black costume.  He is bare-chested, he has scars on his body, and face paint that kind of resembles the eye patches on his comic book costume.  He also has claws taped to his body so that he resembles a low-rent Wolverine.  Wow, Marvel, just….wow.  I am trying to contain my geek rage.  This was supposed to be a no-brainer.

You have Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool, which is dead-on, idiot-proof casting.  Then, you decide that this is his costume?!  I understand that in the X-Men movie universe, costumes are more leather than spandex.  But this crap?! Really?!  My only consolation is that there was a furor over Brian Singer’s X-Men films and their leathery, pseudo-S&M look.  However, it worked on screen.  Therefore, I can only hope that this look will work.  Also, I hope some sort of costume will follow by the end of this film or a possible Deadpool film.

Marvel, I need you to think things through. You are on this close to erasing the bad memories of all the horrible adaptations of the past (Daredevil and Elektra, I’m looking at you). I really want to accept this, and I want this to work.  But after seeing this action figure, I think that I may be haunted by the ghosts of the bad Marvel Films of the past.  I still intend to see Wolverine. I’m just slightly less optimistic about the project now.

This is Fox not Marvel Studios….also its an origin film. He’s not born with the costume. Let characters develop.

I hope you’re right, AD. I’m just a little concerned now.

I was gonna say the same thing – they are creating an origin and I wouldn;t be surprised if his suit comes at the end or is alluded to in some way.

I am not gonna let this get to me, yet

I saw the movie and I actually liked it a lot! Sure Deadpool isn’t in his outfit and stuff (and looks rather silly) but the movie was exciting and it was intense when Wolverine and Sabretooth fought with Deadpool.
