Samuel L. Jackson signs with Marvel for 9 films!
Just days after I criticized the second year studio for some of its recent casting issues, including the finance issue between them and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson has inked a massively unprecedented nine-picture deal with Marvel Studios to portray the head of S.H.E.I.L.D. - General Nick Fury.
Jackson, who was apparently at a negotiation stalemate with the studio over his role is now locked in to appear as Fury in Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America, The Avengers and those films’ sequels.
We saw the actor only once as Nick Fury in the credits of Iron Man. Getting Jackson is a big deal not only does it bring consistency to a character that is essential to the series of Superhero films but also it gives fanboys something to smile at. Nick Fury’s original art was alot different than the look of Jackson, even resembling David Hassellhoff at times but it wasn’t until the Marvel Ultimates were developed that the character was re-drawn to look like Samuel L. Jackson, with his explicit permission.
Fury has a substantial presence in all the Ultimates comics, appearing first in Ultimate Marvel Team-Up and Ultimate X-Men and later reappearing regularly in Ultimate Spider-Man and finally securing a regular, recurring role as the General of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the leader of The Ultimates, a re-imagining of the Avengers.
