Arnold Schwarzenegger in Stallone’s The Expendables
So Sly Stallone’s latest production, The Expendables, continues to grab my attention as a movie with a very good ensemble cast. What seems to be Sly’s A-Team veined project this movie just got far more interesting by casting none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger as himself in the film. Also Eric Roberts has joined the cast of the film, replacing Ben Kingsley’s role and Mickey Rourke is officially in the cast.
According to Ain’t It Cool News,
“He will be shooting for one day, and it seems that the Gov and Sly’s character Barney Ross have some history back when the Gov was shooting Conan The Barbarian!“
“Also – Ben Kingsley is out as the dirty bastard CIA sob, and Eric Roberts is in! Also, Mickey Rourke has finally signed on officially!”
I think it is kind of cool that Arnold is making an appearance in the film and how there is a fake backstory involving a real Arnold film tying into Stallone’s character. I would assume this is just Arnold’s way of passing his action film cameo around. His last cameo was as a random stranger in The Rundown, sort of passing the torch to Dwayne Johnson. This film’s cast is pretty good so far rounding that out is Sly, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Forrest Whitaker, Eric Roberts and possibly Dolph Lundgren. The script was written by Stallone and revolves around a team of mercenaries trying to overthrow a South American dictator.
