McG is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with Captain Nemo

The prequel of Jules Verne’s classic story, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, has gotten the fast track from Disney and that includes the acquisition of Terminator Salvation director, McG.

The director, who had “multiple studios vying for his next slot” is slated to make $8 million against 7% gross.

According to the trade pub, Variety, the film, which is entitled - 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo, is a family film and is,

“Scripted by Bill Marsilli, the film is an origin story of Nemo as he creates his warship, the Nautilus. The characters come from the Jules Verne novel.”

Tron 2.0 producer Sean Bailey is producing along with McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision.

This is a surprise project, original in some capacity, it seems like it is Disney trying to catch some of the success that Journey to the Center of the Earth made last year. I would assume this movie would imply some 3D stuff and make for a fun and exciting adventure film.

The larger question I have is - will McG also direct the next Terminator installment (the sequel to Salvation)?

I guess time will tell on that.
