Garrett Hedlund takes the lead role in Disney’s new Tron flick!

Garrett Hedlund will star in the newly renamed, Tron, a sequel to the 1982 cult classic of the same name. The film originally was being titled Tron 2.0 amongst other variations.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hedlund has been seen but not particularly noticed by many audiences in Troy as well as Friday Night Lights, Four Brothers, Eragon, and he appeared opposite Lindsay Lohan, Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman in Georgia Rule. It seems he is about to get noticed as he gets the lead in a major special effects project for Disney.

According to the article,

“Hedlund will play the lead, a man who finds himself pulled into the world of a computer and retracing the steps of a character from the original movie named Kevin Flynn.”

“Jeff Bridges is reprising the role of Flynn, who was a computer programmer but ended up as the CEO of a software corporation. Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett have also been cast in the project, which was known as “Tron 2″ and “Tr2n” but it now going with the simple “Tron.”

Sean Bailey is producing along with Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, and Jeff Silver.

Sounds like a cool choice. I remember him in Eragon, Friday Night Lights and Four Brothers. He is a solid actor and his character seems interesting. The film of Tron just excites me because the original was so awesome and it is vary obvious that they want to keep all the elements of the original but bring it back with a good and solid story and with a younger audience in mind.
