Troy Duffy Talks Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day
So Troy Duffy, the writer, director and creator of The Boondock Saints and All Saints Day, took time to answer questions submitted by us and other websites across the world, including our friends over at Geeks of Doom. Now we decided to post the Q/A he answered for us along with one that he answered for GoD that we found interesting. He answers our questions at about the 24:46 time stamp.
Geeks of Doom Question 3: What would it take to make this the ultimate cult trilogy?
Duffy: “Well just being two movies…man I fought for like 10 years just to get this one done so its like Hooray two movies… if it feels right we will do it, ya know?…I have to tell you I am little more interested in making a prequel…just because there is more story thats already in my head.”
Fused Film Question 1: What kind of themes can we expect in this new film that differ from the first film?
Duffy: “Expect the theme of father and son, theme of friendship and more that I will not give away right now as not to spoil the movie. But Boondock 2 just in terms of its body and concept is much more thematic than the first film…much more complex.
Fused Film Question 2: How is this film story going to differ in tone, story and cinematography style?
Duffy: “Well we have a new cinematographer on this one, so the style is a little bit different. Its got a great look to it. As far as story its got a couple of curveballs like I described before.”
Fused Film Question 3: Do plan to send this film to any film festival like Sundance or Cannes?
Duffy: “No! but again I am not in charge of that. That will have to be answered by other people.”
Another question asked by another website had to do with “how do you make this sequel successful where others aren’t” which we thought was particularly interesting.
Duffy: “Sequels fail mostly because they suck!…not enough effort put into writing…always a let down to fans. To make one good is a trend i noticed is to throw the audience a curve-ball. I took that note and really dugg into Boondock 2 and give the audience something they won’t expect. Its the new thing that will satisfy your experience, its the new thing you won’t see coming and combine that with all the things you love about the first one too.”
