Keanu Reeves will star in “47 Ronin”
Just a few days after Reeves debunked the Speed 3 Rumor. It has been announced that he will star in a film for Universal, titled, 47 Ronin.
According to Variety, the film will be written by Universal’s Wanted scribe, Chris Morgan.
“Chris Morgan, who co-wrote “Wanted and penned the upcoming “Fast and Furious” for Universal, is writing the script. Scott Stuber will produce through his Stuber Prods. banner.”
For those who do not know a Ronin, is a samurai warrior who no longer has a master, these “Ronin” would then become mercanaries for hire. I learned that when I saw the movie, Ronin, with Robert DeNiro. This story with Reeves will play into that type of mythos.
“In “47 Ronin,” he will play one of the swordsmen; the group and their master are revered in Japan for their revenge attack on Dec. 14, 1702.
The film will tell a stylized version of the story, mixing fantasy elements of the sort seen in “The Lord of the Rings” pics, with gritty battle scenes akin to those in films such as “Gladiator.”
It should be known that Keanu Reeves is half-Asian and that heritage will be written into his character for the film.
“Morgan is writing the script and tailoring it so that Reeves — who’s half-Asian — can fit the role as one of the swordsmen. The intention is to begin shooting next year after a director is hired.”
This sounds like a really cool project, as a fan of martial arts films and other cool ideas like Ronin, this movie seems to be right up my alley. I like the idea of crossing it with the fantast elements of something LOTR or even Forbidden Kingdom but having the action/battle style of something like Gladiator or Braveheart.
