The Fused 5 - Top 5 Best James Bonds “Who Never Happened”
In our latest Fused 5, Five Days of Bond leading up to the next installment of the Bond Franchise, Quantum of Solace, we decided to look at the guys who fell short in being able to play the super-suave spy.
This was an interesting feature and one that took some research. Thank God! for Wikipedia.com. After looking at our favorite actors to play Bond we decided to look at the guys who almost got to say “Bond, James Bond” but never will or at least anytime soon.
- Cary Grant
- Clive Owen
- Eric Bana
- Gerard Butler
- Julian Glover
The skewed portion of this list is, Bana, Owen and Butler could all still have a chance to play the role if Daniel Craig bows out soon. But perhaps two of the most interesting Bond choices that never happened are Grant and Glover. Cary Grant, at the time was the one of, if not the biggest movie star. He was a close friend to, Bond producer, Albert R. Broccoli and was his first choice for the role but Connery was eventually settled on due to his European style, a choice that proved to be a good one, no offense to Mr. Grant.
Ultimately, Clive Owen, made the greatest cast choice to play Bond - post Brosnan, especially after working on BMW’s: The Hire, as a tough European driver for hire, in the short film series that gave him the vote from the start but ultimately Craig would take the role for Casino Royale.
Now, lets back-track to the 1970s, Julian Glover, many of who know him from the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as Walter Donovan, the nazi-lover who chose unwisely. Glover’s villainous style earned him a role as a Bond baddie instead of the Tuxedo wearer in For Your Eyes Only, as Aris Kristatos but some thought he should have been the one to replace Connery, after his return, but ultimately “The Saint” Roger Moore got the job, and for the time that was a good choice.
