Rumor: I am Legend 2 – Sequel not Prequel?

So back on September 25, 2008 we posted a story that Warner Brothers maybe interested in an I am Legend franchise with a prequel film, starring Will Smith. Now AICN has posted a new development on the project saying that the film may in fact be a sequel rather than a prequel.

“Let’s start at the beginning. Smith is actually the one who developed the initial story. It took place several years before the original film and there were still pockets of survivors and the story centered around Smith interacting, bonding, and ultimately failing to save them. For months this was the story. Warner’s didn’t much care for it and Smith and Weiss eventually came on board and all parties agreed to change things up. Well this change is pretty insane, the film is no longer a prequel, it’s a f*&^ing sequel!”

AICN cautions that their source be taken with a “grain of salt” so thats what we will do. I am not really enthusied by either a prequel or a sequel. The last movie was OK but kind of disapointing. I would prefer they do a prequel story, because that sounds more interesting to me than just continuing the story, especially when your star didn’t make it out of the movie alive.

Warner Brothers hasn’t commented at all about the movie so right now this is one of those internet rumors, with a lot of “meat” to it.

    I think showing how its got from his family on the helicopter to 3 years later would be a awesome story line, watching New York fall would be interesting because the whole first movie I was wondering what it was like before it was just him. A sequel would be dissappointing because either there would be no Smith or you would have to come up with some bogus way he survived and then indirectly ruin the movie.
