Movie Review: Four Christmases
Four Christmases – By Jen Abrams
Four Christmases with Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon is a new take on a christmas comedy. The basic premise of the story is that Brad and Kate like to be adventurous and try new things and in doing so have avoided their families for the past 3 holiday seasons. This sets the audience up for the obvious story that Brad and Kate’s vacation has been postponed due to weather and their families find this out through the news. The premise of the movie is easily seen through the preview of the movie. What I like about this movie and it’s concept is that while it’s not original, it isn’t as common as buddy movies or road trips and it was done well.
Another thing that Four Christmases does well is use stereotypes to make comedic point. This sometimes is done in a way that taxes on my nerves. This is a rare movie that took a comedic downfall in my opinion and used it to their advantage. These things added to some extremely fun dialogue that make for a pretty decent comedy. Of course not everything that glitters is gold. The tired happy ending to the story does not help the likability of the movie. Not that this is all to be blamed on the writer or even this movie at all, but I sometimes wish for a refreshing not so happily ever after.
I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone looking to have a good time at the movies. Don’t expect to have much of a meaningful message considering that this is a comedy but enjoy it for what it is, a good time. I give Four Christmases:
