Beyonce wants to be Wonder Woman?

Singer/Actress Beyoncé Knowles (aka Sasha Fierce on her upcoming album) told the L.A. Times she’s interested in portraying the most famous super heroine of all, Wonder Woman. A Wonder Woman movie has been in development hell for a few years now, but Beyonce feels she can make the first Wonder Woman feature length film a success.

Beyoncé says that she has met with representatives of DC Comics and Warner Bros. to express her interest in the role of the Amazonian princess. Beyoncé’s acting to career to date has included a comedic role in Austin Powers in Goldmember, a Diana Ross-type character in Dreamgirls and as the defiant and heroin-addicted Etta James in the upcoming Cadillac Records.

“After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero,’” Beyoncé told the L.A. Times this week. “Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy.”

I’ve been eagerly anticipating a Wonder Woman movie since 2005 when Joss Whedon was attached to direct the film (he’s since dropped out). But I haven’t liked Beyoncé as an actress in anything she’s done so far. Even going back to the MTV Hip-Hopera, “Carmen.” She is very easy on the eyes and would look great in the Wonder Woman outfit but that does not, a good movie make. Not only that, but Wonder Woman, as a comic is such a difficult character to write for, there have been very few great Wonder Woman stories, even though she’s right around the level of a Superman or a Batman in terms of popularity and recognition by non comic fans.
