Rumor: Bale as Doctor Strange
So recently Neil Gaiman and Guillermo Del Toro had came out and talked about doing a Doctor Strange film saying -
“I talked with Neil Gaiman [about writing it],” he tells us. “I said, that’s an interesting character because you can definitely make him more in the pulpy occult detective/magician mould and formula than was done in the Weird Tales, for example…the idea of a character that really dabbles in the occult in a way that’s not X-Filey, where the supernatural is taken for granted. That’s interesting…But I wouldn’t use the suit!”
movie and certain rumors have been floating as to who might play the necromonger. So here is the first “Extreme! Extreme!” (in your best Dr. Orpheus Impression) RUMOR. Floating around right now is that it appears Christian Bale could next be tackling another comic superhero…Doctor Strange. The outlet livenews is where this idea originates:
“Doctor Strange is a very different kind of hero to Batman and it’s felt Christian is the sort of actor who can make the part work on screen. It is understood a deal could be struck in the coming weeks.” The Welsh-born star “tops the list” of movie bosses to portray Dr. Strange, a former surgeon who becomes a powerful sorcerer after a car accident leaves him unable to perform operations.
Ok, let’s just go with this for a second…currently, Batman 3 looks like it isn’t happening and Bale is currently dawning another iconic character in John Conner but as Doc Strange? I like it! He certainly has the look for it (suit or no suit) but more importantly I think he could make the character interesting and for Doctor Strange to work with a general audience you need a well known face on the sell. Bale is a good choice and until someone rumors someone better I’ll chalk this one up as a good one but I digress lets keep this as speculation. Lastly I wonder if he would be contractually able to dawn a Marvel character since he is also the face of the Batman franchise, regardless if there are plans to do a third film right now.
