Forbidden Planet Re-make with J. Michael Straczynski
In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, J. Michael Straczynski, the writer behind Clint Eastwood’s recent film, The Changeling, will be writing a new version of the 1956 sci-fi epic Forbidden Planet for Warner Bros.
Veteran Hollywood producer, Joel Silver will be producing the film through his shingle Silver Pictures.
The original film came out in 1956, and it showcased a story about a mission
“sent from Earth to check on a colony of scientists on a far-off planet. They find two members, a man who has found alien technology that doubled his intellect, Dr. Morbius, and his daughter, both of whom have managed to survive an unseen monster roaming the planet.”
The original film was helmed by Fred Wilcox, and starred Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis and Leslie Nielsen. This film also introduced the world to the indelible Robbie the Robot.
This is a movie that was bound to be re-made and with the recent remake of the Day the Earth Stood Still, it was only a matter of time. The thing is these re-makes in particular kind of disgrace the originals and what made them good. Forbidden Planet, to me, is something that still holds up today and re-make will just not be the same. Our very own Adam had this to say regarding the news,
“Don’t care! No Comment!”
