Dark Knight Coming Back to Theaters in IMAX! Oscar Anyone?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Batman wants an Oscar. They’re reporting Warner Bros. is re-releasing The Dark Knight in January, which is the height of the Academy Awards voting season.
Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film’s huge commercial and critical success has spurred talk of possible Oscar nominations for its director, producers and cast — most specifically Bale’s co-star, Health Ledger, for the late actor’s edgy performance as the Joker.
So far, the movie has made about $512 million domestically and $440 million internationally, including more than $55 million in Imax. A pre-Oscars rerelease would help assure its topping $1 billion worldwide, and any nominations or wins would likely mean even greater box office totals.
Dark Knight already ranks as the second-highest-grossing movie ever, after Titanic’s $1.84 billion (600.8 million in domestic and $1.24 billion in foreign in 1997 and 1998).
By that time, it will be out on Blu-ray so I won’t be seeing it again in theaters but I do urge anyone who hasn’t seen it in Imax to go check it out because once it’s gone you will have missed a great experience.
