Warner Brothers Still not Ready for Superman Sequel!

Variety’s Anne Thompson posted another update on the status of the next Superman film. Basically, no one knows. Warner Bros wants to make another movie, but weren’t happy with the last film. Bryan Singer is still contractually and technically attached to the project but Warner does not beleive he can improve upon the first film, even though his vision of Superman: The Man of Steel is being claimed to have a lot of action and to make it the complete opposite to Superman Returns. Some people close to the project on the studio end have claimed that:

“it might be better to start from scratch.”

Thompson’s update also discloses a very interesting notion:

“Today I was told that it is a priority at the studio to find the right direction and if Bryan Singer is willing to do that, fine, but if he gets in the way, he may not stay on the project.”

Comic Book movies are hot right now, and they will eventually peak so strike while the iron is hot, I say!I would have to agree mostly with my blog counterparts in the idea that Singer should save face and stay on as a producer and bring a younger or fresher director, (Zack Snyder, Timur Beckmanbetov, Ben Stiller ?) to direct the picture and you bring in a heavy screenwriter to revamp Superman on-screen the way we need to see him. Don’t make a sequel, don’t re-make an origin story simply make a Superman movie! I think audiences by this day in age have a good idea how Clark Kent became Superman and his powers and such. While I did like Superman Returns, regardless of its flaws and problems, I do think a new direction needs to happen and I do not think Singer is the problem. Too many cooks in the kitchen it sounds like. Warner Bros should get a good producer on board (Charles Roven? or the aforementioned Brian Singer) start from there and push forward.
