Robert Downey Jr talks IronMan2 and Sherlock Holmes
Robert Downey Jr. likes to talk and this time he talks IronMan 2 and Sherlock Holmes in the Chicago Sun Times.
Chicago Sun Times quotes Downey,
“You want some plot secrets? Okay, here we go,” Downey said in an interview this weekend. “If he said he’s Iron Man in the first film, it’s one thing to say it and another thing to evolve to a point where you can live in a heroic fashion.”
I think this is sweet how they are playing the to suit but also the man in the suit. Also I like that the film seems to connect with the last line of the movie where he admits he’s IronMan.
The rest of the conversation revolves around him talking about Guy Ritchie’s new adaptation of the sleuth Sherlock Holmes,
“It’s a contemporary version of a classic tale. But we’re not telling one of the stories from the books.” By the way, Downey’s Sherlock will also kick you know what. “The cool thing about Sherlock is he’s a very skilled martial artist,” Downey said. “So it’s not just about is deductions. This movie will also be a very action-packed version of Sherlock Holmes.”
You know I have mixed feelings about this and we have heard around the rumor mill that this adaptation of Sherlock will have a different take on the character but here is my defense of what they are trying to do. Doyle’s take on his created character was a Holmes that could deduce any criminal into submission and solve crimes without lifting a finger. However, put that character in a modern day world, it wouldn’t make for a great story and you would essentially have CSI the movie…so you have to update the character somehow. Why not make him into an ex-military persona with martial arts skills combined with the traditional Holmes logic and deduction scheme. I see this working and making for an interested re-imagining of the character. Will it be great though? I think it is too early to tell but Robert Downey is awesome so we shall see.
