DVD Review: Hannah Montana - Best of Both Worlds Concert: The 3-D Movie

Hannah Montana: Best of Both Worlds Concert: The 3-D Movie

Director: Bruce Hendricks

Starring: Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, Jona Brothers, Billy Ray Cyrus

Rating: “G”

Runtime: 85 minutes

DVD Release: August 19, 2008

Interestingly one of the most iconic pop stars right now, Miley Cyrus continues her push into the homes and hearts of little girls and guys everywhere with this entertaining concert DVD that is also in 3D. One the most energetic concerts you can find and it is even better to see it with your children or niece and nephew like I did. There immediate immersion into the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana world is truly a spectacle and is something its target market will enjoy.

For the most part the 3D effects are mild, and simply serve to immerse you in the show. Though some things come at you such as fyling drum sticks and guitar picks, the real illusion of depth comes from people and objects receding away from the screen, a technique which appears to bring Hannah/Miley slightly closer.

The DVD version for Walt Disney’s Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus Best Of Both Worlds Concert is packed with extras. The DVD opens with Miley Cyrus warming up back stage then cuts back to 4 weeks before showing all the rehearsal sessions and the drama leading up to the show. The 3D format at times gives the viewer a feeling like they are at the show, but because the theatrical released used polarizing glasses and the DVD uses dual colored glasses for the 3-D experience some of the 3D effect was lost. Bonus features include the Jonas Brothers performing “S.O.S.,” Miley Cyrus singing “Good and Broken,” and eight sing-a-long tracks from the movie. The “Backstage Disney: The Ultimate Personal Tour” feature is an 11-1/2-minute guided tour lead by Miley Cyrus that takes viewers through a typically hectic concert day. I give this DVD 3 out of 5 stars. I would have liked to have seen more extra’s on the discs. Maybe something that would have had games for the computer. All in all a very good DVD that will have girls jumping and singing in their houses.
