Downey to play Sherlock Holmes
Well It seems IronMan has helped grab today’s headlines for its golden boys Favreau and Downey. Favreau is set to direct Iron Man 2 and now Downey is set to appear as Sherlock Holmes in the Guy Ritchie – Warner Brothers drama. Earlier last month we reported DOwney’s next movie was going to be an on-screen adaptation of Cowboys and Aliens but that seems to have faded. This Sherlock Holmes movie will be is next movie since IronMan.
Variety has the report:
Downey committed to the pic, which begins shooting in October, after Ritchie turned in a polish of the latest version of the script, written by Anthony Peckham
The basis for the film is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic tales, but also the comic book “Sherlock Holmes.”
With Downey aboard, the film will go into production before a comedy that just coalesced at Columbia Pictures, with Sacha Baron Cohen playing Holmes, and Will Ferrell playing his crime-fighting partner Dr. Watson.
Both versions of Holmes excite me and this one should be good simply with Ritchie and Downey partnering up. I loved Sherlock Holmes as a kid and even got to see the inspiration of him when visiting England with my family years ago. Secondly one of my favorite movies growing up was The Young Sherlock Holmes. It is all elementary from here.
