Berg! from Hancock to Hercules
Hancock director, Peter Berg is now signed to direct a new take on the Hercules mythos for Universal.
Variety has the report,
Berg will produce and will develop to direct “Hercules: The Thracian Wars,” a co-production of Spyglass Entertainment, Berg’s Film 44 and Radical Pictures. Spyglass and Universal will co-finance the film.
“What resonated for them was that this was character driven, about a character who’s more man than god, with conflicts and redemption,” Levine said.
I really like the concept of bringing Hercules to the big screen and the article is also saying the title of the film is called Hercules: The Thracian Wars. Based on that it seems this movie will be heavy action and battle laden much like Troy was. I will say that I think Berg is as good a choice as any but my biggest question looming: Is there a demand for these epic Greek or Roman mythos films in Hollywood? Gladiator really brought it back to Hollywood but the 300 movie really gave it a mainstream look. I just wonder if we need another film they may miss the mark such as Alexander and Troy.
