Indy 5 - Lucas talks! Spielberg listens, Ford smiles and Shia crosses his fingers!
In recent interview with Fox News, George Lucas, mentioned the idea of a fifth installment to the Indiana Jones franchise. Lucas’ ideas revolves around Shia Lebeouf’s character Mutt Williams being the lead.
“I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this,” Lucas told Fox News. “But I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.”
Lebeouf seems to be interested in the idea of reprising his role of Mutt and is most likely locked into a sequel just in case one was to be made. Also with the recent article in GQ, Spileberg seems to have a soft spot for him making him Steve’s next Tom Hanks or even Harrison Ford.
“I don’t think a Mutt spinoff would be as big as Indiana Jones,” LaBeouf told MTV. “[But] fingers crossed!”
Ford as always mentioned that he could play Indiana again as long as it didn’t take 20 years to make and he was physically able to do the character.
“And it’s not like Harrison is even old,” admits Lucas. “I mean, he’s 65 and he did everything in this movie. The old chemistry is there, and it’s not like he’s an old man. He’s incredibly agile; he looks even better than he did 20 years ago, if you ask me.”
I do not know what to think about this but I will say why not? Speculation is that a fifth installment with Shia as the lead would have Ford’s Jones in it but make it very similiar to Last Crusade in the fact that Mutt has to save Indy in way that will remind us how Indy saved his dad Sean Connery. My complaint about this is simple the Indiana Jones I know would never get caught or captured like Connery’s Dr. Jones did in Crusade so if this would be the plotline…I have my doubts of it being any good. But this is a speculation and it is defintely interesting to think about.
Right now lets focus on Indy 4 and if it is worth seeing.
